Energy consumption is a hot topic everywhere and this particular standard provides guidelines and procedures for assessing the energy consumption for a complete pumping system, not just the efficiency or energy consumed directly by a pump set.

The Australian Standard – published in 2020 – is an identical adoption of the 2019 European/American ISO/ASME document.  As the title implies, it is recognised in Europe, the US and other countries utilising ISO and ASME standards.

The responsible ISO committee is currently seeking feedback on a number of questions relating to this document – AS ISO ASME14414: 2020 Pump System Energy Assessment.

The questions in regards to the standard that are to be answered by the pump industry, organisations specifying pumps, those using pumps or carrying out pump energy assessments are:

  1. Withdraw/Review/Amend/Confirm/Abstain due to lack of national expert input?
  2. Is this International Standard utilised in this country?
  3. Is this International Standard, or its national adoption referenced in regulations in this country?

The Pump Industry Australia, as a member of Standards Australia’s Pump Committee ME-030, is seeking information from its members and other interested organisations wishing to comment on the action the PIA should take on this matter.

Anyone wishing to comment or respond should email pumpsaustralia@bigpond.com, attention Executive Officer – Standards, before 10 May 2024.
