Greater Western Water has announced that the $20 million major pipeline and sewer pump station upgrades for Bacchus Marsh, and surrounding areas, are complete.
The works include an upgraded sewer pump station, a new sewer pipeline and two new water pipelines, with most of the projects completed in August 2021.
Greater Western Water’s General Manager Growth and Infrastructure, Amanda Smith, said with the local population projected to double to 46,000 in the next 20 years, this important investment will ensure demand for services can be met, providing for the Bacchus Marsh community for years to come.
“These are significant projects for the town’s sewerage and water network. In particular, it ensures Greater Western Water can meet the demand for sewerage services for at least the next 15 years,” Ms Smith said.
“These projects have been safely delivered under COVID Safe settings, demonstrating the concerted efforts of staff and contractors.
“Greater Western Water thanks the community for their patience and understanding during construction.”

Grant Street Sewer Pump Station Upgrade
The Grant Street Sewer Pump Station Upgrade project included a $6.7 million upgrade to the existing sewage pump station at Peelmans Lane near Grant Street to increase the pump’s capacity. This will enable additional sewage to be received and pumped to the Bacchus Marsh Recycled Water Plant for treatment and recycling.
The pump station upgrade also eases the load on the Avenue of Honour pump station, which receives most of the town’s sewage.
Sewer pipeline project
A new 9.2 million, 8km-long sewer pipeline from Peelmans Lane to the Bacchus Marsh Recycled Water Plant has been built, with the pipeline helping with the management of sewage flows throughout the town.
Bacchus Marsh Sewer Duplication
The Bacchus Marsh Sewer Duplication works were completed in late 2020, delivering a new 2.5km duplicate sewer pipeline from Holts Lane to the Avenue of Honour. The $3.4 million pipeline is critical new infrastructure needed to meet increasing demand for essential sewer services in the area.
Water pipeline projects
Bachcus Marsh has also received upgraded water pipeline projects, including $1.74 million across two new water pipelines; a new 800m water main from Griffith Street to East Maddingley Road and a new 770m water main from Franklin Street west to Barry Street.
These projects will boost water pressure to businesses in the rapidly growing Parwan area.
