As the WA Mining Conference and Exhibition returns to the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on 11-12 October, the value-packed, free-to-attend exhibition promises a showcase of the latest technology solutions in mining.

New to the 2023 exhibition is the Decarbonisation Zone, featuring smart and sustainable solutions for companies to meet ESG requirements and understand electrification and energy-saving opportunities. The International Copper Association Australia is supporting the Decarbonisation Zone, and CEO, John Fennell, said decarbonisation is both the industry’s biggest challenge and its greatest opportunity for change and innovation.

“Mining smarter and greener is here to stay, but it needs a broad, industry-wide response given its importance to the Australian and world economies, as no one company or industry can do it on their own. We have been leading a project with business, industry and government on cleaner mining in the copper industry that identifies best practice now and into the future. From this, we now know collaboration is absolutely crucial for success,” Mr Fennell said.

Commodore Australia + Unique Hire is one of the companies in the Decarbonisation Zone and will have their innovative and eye-catching portable solar power units on display. The team at Commodore is hoping to connect with industry and showcase what’s possible, particularly in a remote, off-grid environment.

Head of Engineering for Commodore Australia, Linden Howells, said, “Our off-grid solar containers are a fully portable solution which can be easily transported to any site. Within a matter of minutes, it can be set up and produce power to run things like accommodation blocks, water pumps, lighting – anything a client might need on the mine or at the site. As a renewable form of electricity, solar is a great, fast solution to power supply issues.”

CR Powered by Epiroc is also showcasing some of its technology-focused products, based on its continual optimisation ethos for mining products, both digital and physical. Hannah Sabih, Global Marketing Manager for CR, said that while the mining technology sector was ever-changing, opportunities like WA Mining offer a valuable chance to network with clients and peers.

“WA Mining 2022 had a real buzz at the expo and conference, and we’re looking forward to another great show. We’re keen to share the hard rock solutions CR Powered by Epiroc has developed with miners, from lips and GET proven to increase production in lithium and iron ore, to our sensor-based GET loss detection system and payload management solution,” Ms Sabih said.

“One of the solutions we’ll be presenting is our GET Trakka loss detection system, which uses IoT technology to alert operators to GET disengagement. Ultimately, it’s about optimising machine uptime and productivity, while keeping workers safe, and this is just one in our suite of technology-driven solutions.”

The WA Mining Conference and Exhibition will also feature a free-to-attend seminar series sponsored by Adobe. The seminar series will present practical sessions discussing digital threats, net zero transition, health and safety and technical innovation. Attendees will also hear practical sessions from senior Adobe consultants, educating attendees on the possibilities of using Adobe’s Document Cloud technology to enable remote delivery of services.

Senior Solution Consultant Document Cloud from Adobe, Diski Naim, said, “Our solutions specific to the mining industry may surprise attendees at WA Mining – there are ways to help streamline operations and enable connectivity and collaboration across workforces that you may not have explored yet, so come ready to find out what’s possible.”

WA Mining’s paid conference runs parallel to the exhibition and features more than 40 speakers sharing case studies and thought leadership from academia, industry and technology. Tickets to the conference are 75 per cent sold already. Attendees are encouraged to register for the exhibition, the conference or both events ahead of time, via waminingexpo.com.au.
