The NSW/ACT state winner of the best tasting tap water competition has been announced at the annual Water Industry Operators Association of Australia (WIOA) conference in Tamworth.
Shoalhaven Water was shortlisted from a long list of New South Wales and Australian National Territory competitors to a final top three, alongside Tamworth Regional Council and Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.
Judges undertook blind taste tests on the samples from each water utility, which were judged on colour, clarity, odour and mouthfeel.
The award is very popular and hotly contested at WIOA, with operators from all over New South Wales and Australian National Territory taking pride in the product they deliver to their communities.
This was the second win at state level for Shoalhaven Water, after taking out the top spot in 2019.
Shoalhaven City Council’s Mayor, Amanda Findley, said she was delighted to hear the announcement.
“I’m extremely proud of our Shoalhaven Water operators who have faced some challenging times of late dealing with varying water quality in our raw water source, the Shoalhaven River. They have worked hard and managed to finetune the treatment processes to maintain a high-quality product,” Ms Findley said.
Shoalhaven Water will head to the national finals later in 2022.
